Looking to improve on the reserve championship earned in week 3, Gates and his mount Millwaukie got off to a good start with a win in Friday's power and speed class. In the classic on Saturday, Gates rode a smooth first round to qualify for the short course. Taking off at a full gallop to trigger the clocks, Gates and Millwaukie executed the plan of crisp turns to take the lead. The last rider to take the course provided some late drama, but came up just short to give the victory and the championship to Gates and Millwaukie. Congratulations.
In other action, Lee Lee and Steamy won ribbons with two great trips. Elle continued to improve on her new mount, Walk-On and was robbed of a higher ribbon in the Children's Hunter Horse on Little Diamond. Competing in the Sunday Classic in the International Arena, Virginia and Flying Dutchman were just a stride off and finished with the one refusal. Great effort.
